Redneckin' Good Time

Six weeks before their wedding, Ryan and Theresa didn't know what to expect at their wedding shower. With the theme relating to truckers and rednecks, it was anyone's guess on what to expect. And the party didn't disappoint. With numerous interpretations of what a trucker or redneck looks and acts like, nobody should put anything past the Gillispies.

The party included wife beaters, false teeth and a waitress named Sweet P. The backyard of Mike & Barb's was transformed into a redneck diner with plastic bottles as vases for the flowers and included on the menu was a hot roast beef sandwich. When the happy, engaged couple arrived, t-shirts and hats awaited them for their costume, and they enjoyed putting them on to be part of the crowd.
The night was filled with laughter as usual, and because of darkness, the redneck Olympic games got cancelled. But be sure next time when we gather again, the redneck triathlon will be in full force. In attendance were the usual gathering of the Gillispies. But special guests were also included in the festivities, and probably pretty shocked to see what was behind the front door of Mike & Barb's.

For the first time, the family met the bride's parents, Rod and Joan, who took everything in stride. Late in the evening some of us warned the proud parents that they haven't seen us dance yet, perhaps the scariest thing of all! Also in attendance was the bride's sister, Jennifer and her boyfriend. Also in attendance were the groom's aunt and uncle (the Murphy side) and a couple of cousins. All were delighted to be there to share the moment with everybody. Although they may not read this, we would like to send out a thank you for attending the party and going with the flow! We will be better dressed for the wedding!

The festivities concluded when the bride and groom opened their gifts. And afterward, the groom gave a quick thanks for the "generosity" of everyone. A proud moment for the parents of the groom! Finally, the session ended with the usual blindfolded questions, and the bride and groom seem to agree on a lot! They passed the test with flying colors, getting 22/26 questions right. Very impressive.

The party then moved inside where guests trickled out and the remaining party-goers turned their attention to the Olympics. We were all proud to be Americans watching Dara Torres and Michael Phelps and others at their best. I think I speak for everyone reading, thank you to the organizers and the happy couple for being great sports. The organizers did a wonderful job making this party a success! Way to go - and they didn't even need Cleo!

It was a lot of fun, as usual. Thanks for giving us another reason to get together and have a party, Ryan and Theresa! See you at Billy and Joyce's shindig in September.

Thanks for one GREAT party!!! It ranks right up there as one of the best. It was so great that Tom still has his "F.O.G." tattoo. One of his students, however, said he thought the tattoo read F.A.G. I think he is just getting in shape for his Harley!!! Thanks again and see you all soon.
