Gossiper editor wins awards

For the second straight year, Jimmy Gillispie was successful in the annual Kansas Press Assocation awards.
This year, the Baldwin City Signal writer won three contests and placed third in another. He took home first place in the non-daily division I in sports pages, sports photo and sports story. His other award was for column writing. The two places above him in column writing work for the same company and work at nearby papers.
In 2008, Jimmy also won for sports pages. That was his first-ever first place in the KPA awards.
"I was very excited to win three awards this year," Jimmy said. "It was quite an honor. I thought I had a good chances to win sports pages and maybe sports photo this year. I was shocked to win sports story, since I don't know what story it was for. Awards are nice when you get them, but it's not something I am too concerned about. Weekly deadlines are more important."
Jimmy also helped the Signal win Feature Package and Best Newspaper Website. The awards ceremony is April 25 in Wichita, but Jimmy won't be able to attend as he will be taking a vacation with his mother and nephew in Florida.
