Weather Clears Just In Time for Wedding!

All the rain could not put a stop to Billy and Joyce's special day. Despite all the rain Lawrence received this week, it stopped just in time for the wedding and the day went off without a hitch.
The weekend started off by family and friends gathering at Vermont Street BBQ on Friday evening. There, the couple hosted by serving them appetizers and great food! While there, the families watched the Kansas Jayhawks play South Florida in a Friday night college football contest, although the outcome was not welcoming to Jayhawk fans. However, it was a great opportunity for the families get together and have a great time.

When Saturday rolled around, people were anticipating wet weather, but what they found was cool and dry weather. (People would disagree on how cool it was, but it was cool). Thanks to the efforts of the groom and others, the ground where the ceremony was held and where everybody gathered to eat was dry and not soggy like many had anticipated. Family and friends started gathering and mingling with one another around 2 p.m., two hours before the vows were exchanged.

When it was time to start the ceremony, perhaps the person who was most nervous was not the bride or groom, although they had to be nervous themselves as well. Instead the person who was more nervous than them was the person who administered the wedding, Cleo. This wasn't the first time administering a wedding, but it is still a big responsibility and she did a wonderful job.

The ceremony was short and sweet, had tears and laughter from the guests, but was perfect for the couple. Cleo talked about what marriage meant and how each partner should view love and marriage. Billy and Joyce each read their vows, with a little bit of laughter and tears. As he kissed her to end the ceremony, the crowd stoop and applauded as David Heeter shot of a ceremonial salute to awaken the heavens. After the ceremony, everybody went back to the tent and snacked on cheese and crackers before the main course was served.

Speeches were given by Amy, two of Joyce's sisters, Joyce's dad, aunt Mary and Mack. They all gave quick speeches, thanking everyone for coming and speaking kind words about the newly wedded couple. Music continued to play during the reception as most guests mingled and drank. A few even danced, including the star of the dance floor, Turner Thompson. He busted several moves and had the crowd cheering his name.

After that, the crowd slowly trickled out and some of the family went back to Granny's to watch Saturday Night Live, which was hosted by Michael Phelps. Jim and Bill were determined to go play bocce ball in downtown Lawrence, but couldn't find a ride. A little after 11 p.m. the clan left Granny's and went home.
While we will not say names, we heard some people were hurting Sunday morning. We don't know everybody who was hurting, but the Gossiper can guess who was feeling a little low the next morning! All in all, while the day wasn't perfect weather wise, the rain did hold off.

We hope everyone didn't use up all of their fun as we have another family wedding in less than three weeks. On Oct. 4, Ryan and Theresa will be celebrating their special day. See ya'll very soon.

Joyce was a beautiful bride and I don't know if we've seen the non-dickey Billy looking so handsome. :) Your day was wonderful and we were happy to spend it with you. Congrats! -The Thompson family
