Just a few weeks away from turning 60, Maggie accomplished a task she has always wanted to do: skydive. Today, October 19, 2008, will never be forgotten by those who witnessed Maggie jumping out of a plane from 10,000 feet. It was a beautiful day with a blustery southern wind. Her and Keaton, a college aged kid from Wichita who goes to Johnson County, were the the only two that jumped out of the plane this morning, originally there had been several more to jump out.
The two arrived at the airport several hours before taking the jump to learn about the tricks to skydiving and to sign many release forms. If you are planning on skydiving, just know that if something happens to you, you cannot sue, or if you do, you won't win. Just a tip for future skydivers!! After watching several videos and strapping their gear on, the two waited around awhile for the plane to get ready. While waiting to go up, there was a surprise waiting for Maggie. Friends and family showed up (although Cleo and Leslie were the ONLY family members besides Abby and Eli to show up) to wish Maggie good luck and to see her take the plunge. She was extremely excited to see everybody who came out to watch!
It was finally time for Maggie to go up. But the most nerve wracking part was just ahead: Jumping out of the plane. Being strapped to another person, she didn't have much of a choice, she had to go. As she put it: "They had to push me out." Once out of the plane, it was all downhill. While freefalling for 30 seconds, although Maggie said, "it didn't feel like you were falling. It felt more like floating in air," and eventually the larger parachute was pulled and away the two floated for roughly 6 minutes in the air before landing in the field. Afterwards, friends and family gathered for a picnic there at the airport. Maggie couldn't believe all who showed up and was extremely grateful for those who did show up! Congrats Maggie on accomplishing this task, it's not the easiest thing to do!! WAY TO GO!!

I think all of us who are still waiting for our 60th birthday need to follow in Margaret's footsteps and take a similar plunge on our 60th!! It was pretty cool to see her do this. Of course, I will need to have permission from my son but who knows maybe he would jump along with me!!!
I'm sure that Ryan would okay....right, Worm?? -jess
